The 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R will show its face at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in June, Michelin have confirmed.
The eagerly anticipated fierce update to the renowned Mercedes GT has been snapped in disguised form testing in the treacherous climates of the Arctic Circle as well as on public roads, but this will be the first official showing to the public.
The GT R will be the third variant in the Mercedes-AMG GT line-up, with five models planned in total. It will use the 4-litre twin turbo V8 that powers the existing GT and GT S variants, but added power to make for the fieriest edition yet. Experts speculate the model will have around 570bhp, with Mercedes AMG performance division MD confirming the car will have more than the GT S’s 503bhp but less than 600bhp.
Track focused: the GT R will benefit from aerodynamic bodystyling, as well as an aggressive front bumper featuring a prominent splitter element. It will also get the new Paneramerica grille, featuring 15 distinctive vertical slats alongside the iconic Mercedes emblem.
