The new Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S 4MATIC+

Mercedes-Benz this week released exciting details about their new Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S 4MATIC+.

Mercedes-Benz this week released exciting details about their new Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S 4MATIC+. While we’re still waiting for UK pricing and specification to be released, we do know that the vehicle is due to go on sale April time, with first deliveries expected by the summer.

Driven by a 2 litre, four-cylinder engine, the GLA 45 S has a total output of a whopping 310kW/421 hp. The specific engine has actually been named the most powerful series-produced turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the world, which, when combined with the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, ensures the GLA 45 S lives up to its expectation of being the ‘compact performance SUV to suit any lifestyle’, as it’s been termed.

To facilitate the production of this engine, an entirely new production line was installed in Affaltarbach – home of the AMG engine production facility – to enable the “One Man, One Engine” principal to be encompassed throughout the build process. Indeed the engine of this impressive SUV is assembled entirely by hand.

The overall driving experience is further heightened by AMG TORQUE CONTROL in the new rear axle differential, which facilitates the distribution of power between both the front and rear wheels, and also selectively between the left and right wheels. The result is optimal traction throughout all terrains and road conditions.

Aesthetically, the GLA 45 S features a reinforced body shell to optimise stability and handling, whilst elements such as the AMG-specific radiator grille with the vertical slats ensure its position within the AMG Performance family is easily identifiable. Aerodynamics play a key role in the styling of the SUV too; it comes as standard with a front splitter in silver chrome to optimise the airflow, and the 20-inch alloy wheels are aerodynamically optimised.

The GLA 45 S comes with the latest Mercedes-Benz infotainment system – MBUX – on board, which caters for voice-activated commands through the trigger phrase ‘Hey Mercedes’. Interior design elements of the S-Model include the AMG Performance steering wheel with steering-wheel buttons, through which AMG performance functions can be directly controlled.

This car successfully encompasses AMG performance with SUV practicalities throughout, leaving it the perfect complement for any lifestyle.
