Mercedes-Benz partners with Google on AI powered Navigation Systems

Mercedes-Benz has partnered with Google on AI-powered conversational search within MBUX Navigation Systems.
Mercedes-Benz and Google have announced an expansion of their partnership to bring about new conversational capabilities to the MBUX Virtual Assistant, using Google’s new Automotive AI Agent. The Automotive AI Agent has been specifically tuned for the automotive industry and can access information from Google Maps to give users more detailed responses regarding navigation, points of interest and more.
Using information from Google Maps means that Mercedes-Benz owners can receive up to date and factual information about 250 million places around the world. The maps update in real time, with over 100 million updates a day. MBUX Virtual Assistant will be able to provide an enhanced search and navigation experience, for example, asking “Could you guide me to the nearest fine-dining restaurant for a unique culinary experience?” would give you all of the relevant information needed through a natural conversation, you can also follow up with questions such as “Does the restaurant have good reviews?”. MBUX Virtual Assistant will provide you with accurate and up-to date information to any of your navigational questions, whilst showing you on the display.
The Automotive AI Agent will also allow the MBUX Virtual Assistant to remember conversations and multi-turn dialogue, meaning users can continue previous conversations and bring up past information.
“At Mercedes-Benz, we seek to offer our customers an exceptional digital experience. Our partnership with Google Cloud will further enhance in-car navigation, combining sophisticated location data with generative AI. Launching with the new CLA, our next-gen navigation will allow drivers and passengers to use voice commands to obtain comprehensive and personalized information within seconds.” Said Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG
“Mercedes-Benz is known for providing an amazing driving experience, and our partnership will bring cutting edge AI breakthroughs to make those experiences even better. Our new Automotive AI Agent will help drivers navigate and search with in-vehicle assistants, so those interactions are more natural and helpful. This is just the beginning of how agentic capabilities can transform the automotive industry and I’m excited to see our partnership drive progress forward.”
Said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet
This incredible AI-enhanced feature will be coming to the new Mercedes-Benz CLA later this year. It will be the first vehicle designed with the new Mercedes-Benz operating system. Roll-outs to further models with the MBUX Voice Assistant is also planned.
