Road-ready blistering Mercedes Hypercar complete with F1 Tech expected next year
Rumours have been circulating for a long time around the possibility of a new lightning-fast Mercedes hypercar, featuring exciting F1 technology yet available for use on the roads. And now it looks like those rumours may have some substance: at the Belgian Grand Prix in late August, when asked about an upcoming Mercedes hypercar a high level source told multiple motoring journalists ‘It’s definitely happening’.
It’s expected to be unveiled to the public in 2017 – the 50th Anniversary of AMG. It’s therefore speculated that the hypercar may be part of a special commemorating project. We don’t know a whole lot about the details of the upcoming Mercedes hypercar yet – but sources have suggested the following:
•It’ll be powered by the 1.6-litre V6 turbo 1 engine features in the W07 F1 Racer, driven by Hamilton and Rosberg
•It could use up to three electric motors
•It’ll feature an energy-recovery system, taking its total output beyond 1000bhp.
•It’ll likely feature a carbonfibre monoque
•A gullwing-style cockpit (pictured right) is expected
Unfortunately we may have to wait a while before getting any official facts and figures regarding the new Mercedes hypercar – however, one thing is for sure: we can’t wait to see it in action!
We’ll be reporting on the 2017 Mercedes hypercar as soon as we find out more - so keep an eye on the Sandown news blog for all the latest updates.
