At Sandown Mercedes-Benz, we’re proud to be a part of the Motability scheme, making everyday mobility more accessible for everyone. With that in mind, we thought we’d explain a bit more about how the scheme works and what you receive as part of qualifying for the scheme. If you’re in receipt of a mobility allowance, you could well qualify for the Motability scheme*.

Motability operate a leasing agreement by which all or part of your mobility allowance, is exchanged for a form of transport. In fact you can choose from the following four categories:

Cars The Motability scheme works in partnership with some of the leading manufacturers and there’s circa 2000 models available on the scheme.

Cars with Adaptations These cars will be adapted to make your everyday life easier. This could include helping you in and out of the car, or stowing your wheelchair.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles These vehicles enable you to travel without having to transfer from your wheelchair.

Scooters and powered wheelchairs These are ideal for shorter journeys where you are travelling on your own.

Once you’ve decided on which option suits you best, Motability take care of all the hard work for you. Additional elements such as insurance, breakdown cover and servicing and maintenance are all included as part of a lease agreement for cars. All customers will receive support from Motability’s UK-based dedicated customer services team should they need it.
