The effect of weather on tyres.

With the ever-changing weather conditions, it’s so important to ensure your tyres are ready to withstand anything that comes at them.
In wet conditions, it’s easy for road incidents, such as aquaplaning, to occur. Aquaplaning is where you lose control of your braking, steering and acceleration after hitting a puddle/water.
This is where the importance of replacing and checking your tyres (at least once a month!) comes in. The grooves/tread on your tyres clear enough water to fill a bucket in 7 seconds. As your tyres wear down, they become less capable of clearing away the water.
Your braking distance can become hindered by insufficient tread, below you will see the effects of different amounts of tyre treads.
Sufficient tread – Tyre ensures optimum road contact.
Low tread – Water can get between the road and tyres, extending the breaking distance.
Insufficient tread – Tyres can float uncontrollably and lose road contact. The vehicle may also lose control. A significant extension of the breaking distance will also be in place.
Essentially, the deeper your tyre tread is, the better your vehicle can cope with the roads. You can also check the wet grip rating on the label present when buying new tyres.
